Red Devils Stay Hot After Extended Break
On a rare weeknight game, Dickinson traveled to Palmyra to take on conference foe Penn State Harrisburg.  While the team had already secured a playoff spot, a first round "bye" was on the line.  Dickinson didn't waste much time getting on the board as Charlie Goldberg got an assist from Pearce Erensel to get an early lead.  Penn State however struck back with a goal of their own to tie the contest, but Dickinson quickly got back on top when Erensel scored an unassisted goal to give the team a lead which they would not relinquish.  While still in the fist period though, senior captain Dan Conant was hit from behind while chasing a puck, and subsequently had to be helped off the ice.  Conant did not return to the line-up for the remainder of the game and the coaching staff would only divuldge that it was a lower body injury.
Following the injury time-out, the Dickinson squad gathered at their bench where assistant captain Greg Goldman stepped up to keep the team on its toes.  The club then recorded two additional goals when Teddy Malley scored an unassisted goal, and Mike Malloney scored with helpers going to Malley and Alex Gitlin.  As the clock wound down, it was Dickinson that prevailed with a final score of 4-2.  Coach Wolfe stated, "This was a total team effort.  Our goalie (Will Beurlin) played the best game he's had all season, and everyone did their job."  The Devils have only one day to rest before they travel to Lancaster to take on Franklin and Marshal in a Saturday Night (1/28) contest that is scheduled to start at 5:00pm.

Red Devils Gain an Additional 2 pts from Another Gettysburg Forfeit
The Dickinson Red Devils were scheduled to travel to York this Saturday (12/3) to take on Gettysburg.  Due to the announcement last week that Gettysburg's team is folding, the Red Devils will be off until January.  Players are reminded that they must see Team Captain Dan Conant to file paperwork prior to leaving at the conclusion of the semester.

Gettysburg's D-III Hockey Club Folds
In a suprising league announcement last week, the Gettysburg Bullets shut down their D-III Hockey Program.  This was the first year that Gettysburg tried to compete with both a D-II and a D-III program.  Unfortunately, they may have had bigger aspirations than what the school could support.  After forfeiting a game to Dickinson earlier in the year, Gettysburg recently tried to take on Franklin & Marshal where they had a short bench again which prohibited them from being competitive.  While the lack of committment from Gettysburg's D-III players shut the program down, the Mason Dixon League will have to determine if a new system will go into place to playoff seeds scheduled to be announced in the first week of February.

American University Ends Red Devils Streak
American, fresh off a Friday night win over Johns Hopkins, traveled to Dickinson on Saturday where the Red Devils were trying to keep their unbeaten streak alive.  Both teams took to the ice in the pre-game skate where they both looked determine to have the game go their way.  As the game got underway, it didn't take long for American to get the lead as their captain lit the lamp just 1:40 into the game to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.  But Dickinson was undeterred an scored 3 minutes later when freshman Davis Brown scored off a Greg Goldman pass to even things up.  With the bench still excited from the goal, Charlie Goldburg scored a second goal for the Red Devils with assists going to Goldman and Sam Silvershein.  Dickinson then took their lead into the second period when Alex Gitlin made a shorthanded and unassisted goal, putting the Red Devils into a comfortable 3-1 lead.  But from that moment on, it was all American as they scored 5 unanswered goals before finishing the second period with a 6-3 lead.  Dickinson went into their locker room between periods stunned with what had just happened.  For the first time all year, the Red Devils found themselves down by multiple goals.  With just 20 minutes left in the game, Dan Conant, the Red Devil's captain, tried to energize the bench.  Everyone knew what would be required of them and everyone buckled down to make it happen.  Unfortunately, as the period wore down, the clock became Dickinson's enemy.  Both teams played solid back and forth hockey until with roughly 5 minutes left in the contest, the Eagles would score the game's final goal which gave them a 7-3 victory, and handed Dickinson their first league loss of the year.  The Red Devils head out for the Thanksgiving break knowing that they come back to a big rivalry game against Gettysburg next Saturday (12/3) in their final game of the fall semester.  The contest is scheduled for 7:00pm at the York Ice Arena.

Red Devils Wrap Up Season's First Half by Remaining Undefeated
Annual Alumni Game Set for March 3rd Practice Resumes January 23rdAll active players should be on the ice at Twin Ponds East at 6:30pm.Coming off a close game against Penn State Capital, Dickinson hosted Franklin & Marshall for their first ever meeting.  F&M is in its first season in the Mason Dixon League following their step down from Division II competition.  Following a few shifts whereby each team tested each other like heavy weight fighters, F&M lit the lamp with a little over 13 minutes left in the first period to give the Diplomats an early 1-0 lead.  Dickinson, trailing for the first time this season, followed up with a goal of its own less than 4 minutes later when Charlie Goldburg scored on a shot which came from newcomer Davis Brown and veteran captain Dan Conant.  Dickinson kept the pressure up and was rewarded with another goal with 4 minutes remaining in the opening period when Goldburg once again found the back of the net after getting assists from linemate Greg Goldman and defenseman Sam Silvershein.  As the second period started, it appeared that the club had settled down and that they were going to play the steady brand of hockey that they've been accustomed to all year, but that all changed as the second period became a scorer's smorgasbord as both teams accounted for 5 goals.  Two of the goals were Dickinson's, with Dan Conant scoring unassisted early in the second for his second point of the night, and later Pat Superko scored an unassisted goal of his own.  Unfortunately, F&M wound up outscoring Dickinson in the period and both teams went to the locker room knotted at 4-4.  Inside Dickinson's locker room, the team realized that it had to do a gut check, and that their perfect season was on the line.  Everyone realized that the next 20 minutes would have to be error free hockey.  As the third period began on the freshly shaven ice, both teams nestled into a defensive posture, limiting shots at both ends.  Each team knew that with one simple mistake or turnover, the fate of the game could be decided.  Then, with 8:30 remaining in the final period, Alex Gitlin was called for a high sticking penalty which gave the Diplomats a man advantage.  As the Dickinson squad fought to kill off the penalty, Dan Conant was whislted for a minor tripping penalty.  With Conant and Gitlin both in the penalty box, F&M had a 5 on 3 power play for 1:46.  Everyone on the Dickinson bench was holding their breath as every second ticked off the clock while watching shot after shot being fended off by Red Devil goalie Will Beuerlein.  Then, as Gitlin's penalty expired, Gitlin jumped out of the penalty box into the neutral zone just as Brad Pero gained control of the puck.  Bero, seeing Gitlin all alone in the zone, made a tremendous pass to Gitlin who then found himself all alone with only the Diplomat goalie between him and a win.  As Gitlin went in on the breakaway, he got the goalie to move first and then put the puck by him for a heroic game winning goal.  As the Red Devils went to the locker room, they realized that this team has a little magic in it.  The club will play host to American this Saturday (11/19) prior to Thanksgiving break.  Come out and support your team when they face off at 9:15pm.

Dickinson Resumes Play by Defeating Penn State Capital
(story courtesy of MDCHA web site)

Because of Gettysburg’s forfeit and the strange snow that came in October, Dickinson hadn’t been on the ice against MDCHA teams in a month.  But you would not be able to tell as the game got started against Penn State Harrisburg.

Dickinson looked eager to get back to play and late in the first period Dickinson found themselves on a powerplay.  They wasted little time as Dickinson’s Davis Brown would net the first goal of the night.  Minutes later Dickinson was on the powerplay again and this time Charles Goldburg buried one for the Red Devils. It looked like Dickinson would take a two goal lead in to the locker room, but with less than a minute remaining Penn State was awarded a powerplay and Guy Lewis Jr. scored with only 3 ticks left in the first pulling within one goal.

The next goal in this game would be crucial and Dickinson was determined to get it.  In fact, Greg Goldman took it upon himself to score not one, but the next two goals for Dickinson, giving them a nice three goal lead.  However, a minute after Goldman’s second goal, Penn State was once again on the powerplay and Michael Van Horn cut the Red Devil lead to only two.  Not to be deterred, Dickinson came flying back with a goal of their own minutes later off the stick of Alexander Gitlin.  But before the end of the period Penn State Harrisburg would not go away and scored an even strength goal from Stefan Eshleman and Penn State would head in to the final frame only down by two goals.

Both teams played aggressive in the third but no one would give an inch.  Time was running out for the Nittany Lions but with just over two minutes left, they were awarded a powerplay and their successful powerplay continued as Lewis, Jr. once again netted a goal pulling within one goal late in the game.  They threw everything at Dickinson in the final minute but Goldburg put the final nail in the coffin scoring a goal with 56 seconds left and giving Dickinson the 6-4 win.

Dickinson and Penn State Harrisburg are both in action next weekend against Franklin and Marshall.

Freak October Snow Storm Postpones Game Against American
As the Red Devils were getting rested for their evening game against American, Mother Nature was busy leaving her mark on the East Coast as record snowfall amounts hit the Central Pennsylvania Area for a late October storm.  Carlisle and surrounding communities reported snowfall measurements between 6" and 10".  A late afternoon decision was made to postpone the game until November 19th.

Red Devils Continue Practicing Following Forfeit by Gettysburg
Following the Mid-Term Pause, the Red Devils were set to continue their quest to keep the winning streak alive by playing host to the Gettysburg Bullets on Saturday Night (10/22).  As the Zamboni prepared the ice and the team began preparations in the locker room, it became increasingly odd that their opponents had not made it to the rink.  Then, with less than 45 minutes until faceoff, the Gettysburg coach declared that his team would have to forfeit due to a lack of player availability.  So as quick as the evening started, it ended just as fast with Dickinson being awarded two additional points in the standings.  Dickinson now stands a top the norther division at 3-0.

Despite not playing, Dickinson came back to Twin Ponds this week for practice as they prepare to take on American Univeristy this Saturday (10/29) at 9:15pm.  This will be Dickinson's third game against a southern division team this year after handing Wesley and Johns Hopkins their only losses of the year.

Dickinson Wins Second Straight Conference Game by Beating Wesley
The Red Devils had a busy weekend by taking on Shippensburg Friday night (10/7) in a non-league game before traveling to Harrington Delaware to take on another Mason Dixon League contestant.

Friday night's matchup was a penalty filled game inwhich referee Paul Valerio couldn't make up his mind as to how he was going to let the teams play.  His inconsistent calls accounted for 31 penalties and 86 combined penalty minutes which made it hard for both clubs to get things clicking.  After a brutal three periods of action, the teams were tied and were about to face their first overtime action of the young season.  The OT had a totally different feel as Valerio once again changed his style and put the whistle away despite several immediate infractions committed by Shippensburg's squad.  The final result was Shippensburg winning the contest by a 4-3 overtime victory.  Fortunately for the Red Devils, the night was over and they could start concentrating on their ever important road game against Wesley on Sunday.

On Sunday, the team made a long 3 1/2 hour trek to Deleware to take on Wesley.  The rink was abuzz with excitement as this was Wesley's Homecoming Weekend and many dignitaries were on hand.  Following a lengthy pregame ceremony, which included the President of Wesley participating in a ceremonial puck drop that included Dickinson's captain Dan Conant, the team was ready to play.  The play went back an forth through the first period without a lot of scoring opportunities.  In fact, Dickinson failed to produce a goal during Wesley's back to back to back penalties.  However, with just a little over 3 minutes left in the opening period, Freshman Brad Bero lit the lamp by beating Wesley goalie Tyler Piechowski for the first goal of the night as the Red Devils were on the powerplay.  After the intermission, the teams went back to playing back and forth hockey without any scoring until Wesley scored a powerplay goal of their own as Sophomore Mike Maloney sat in the penalty bench for Dickinson with 7:16 left in the second period.  But rather than get frustrated, Dickinson responded by scoring two quick goals just 38 seconds apart when Junior Teddy Malley scored with assists from Freshman Alex Gitlin and Sophomore Kyle Farina, and Brad Bero who scored his second unassisted goal of the contest when he blistered a slapshot from the blue line that beat Piechowski on the glove hand.  As the team took to the ice for the final period, they knew that Wesley would come after them with everything they had.  As the third period began, Dickinson settled down and played good defensive hockey for the remainder of the game and kept Wesley from scoring any further goals, while at the same time, notching their fourth and final goal off the stick of Sophomore Pat Superko who scored with assists from Pearce Erensel and Phil Rosenberg.  As the clock ticked down, Dickinson knew that the 3 1/2 hour trip back up to Carlisle would be a little better knowing that they picked up their second straight conference win.

The Red Devils do not face off again until October 22nd when they take on their heated rival, Gettysburg.  That game is scheduled to start at 9:15pm at Twin Ponds West.  Come out and support your team by watching the Red Devils attempt to continue their winning streak.

Red Devils Hockey Opens up Season with Win Over Hopkins
With the memory of last year's shortcomings still fresh in the locker room, the Red Devils took to the ice Saturday (10/1) night with one thing in mind.  That thing was for this team to control their own destiny in this year's race to the playoffs.  Dickinson wasted very little time in starting the season off on a positive note when Sophomore forward Charlie Goldburg  beat the Hopkins goalie for the first score of the night just 50 seconds into the game.  With an energized bench, Junior Teddy Malley took a feed from the squad's senior captain Dan Conant, to notch the second goal of the night just a little over 2 minutes following Goldburg's goal.  Unfortunately, Dickinson put itself in a shorthanded situation after receiving a penalty, and Hopkins scored on freshman goalie Will Beurelein.  From there, the team decided that it was time to dig in and not take anymore chances.  Dickinson proceeded to score 4 additional goals, while keeping Hopkins from lighting the lamp for the rest of the night.  Goldburg added another goal in the first, and one in the second to score his first collegiate hat trick.  Defenseman, sophomore Sam Mandl and sophomore Greg Goldman also contributed goals in the game.  But through all the scoring, the suprise of the night was freshman goalie Will Beurelein's performance.  Other than the lone goal that Beurelein surrendered in the first period, he kept Hopkins at bay and recorded his first college win by having an impressive 98% save percentage on 46 shots.

The team will play against mid-state rival Shippensburg at the Hershey Park Arena this Friday night in a non-conference game before traveling to play Wesley in Delaware Sunday afternoon.
